Jared Leto 2 WIP by Melusaaste Jared Leto 2 WIP by Melusaaste
Well. Yeah. There were things that bothered me in the drawing so I made it better and thought that I could post a WIP picture too, with a few close-ups. I hope you like it. :)

Download for better quality, please.

UPDATE: I found the sketch! I was cleaning my room (for the first time in six months...) and I found it under a big pile of clothes. That's why it's a little wrinkled, sorry about that. So now you can see the compelete painting process and this is also a proof that I didn't manipulate or paint over a photo.

Boy do I love people that are terrible at drawing for real and then try to hide that fact with photo-manipulation.
I absolutely HATE "artists" like you that do shit like this and get rewarded for FAKE TALENT/SKILL, why don't you practice for real instead of using cheap ways?

Boy do I love it when people don't do their research. I've made pencil drawings for years and practiced realism my whole life, and I also have a lot of videos on my channel that show how the paintings are made. Did you even compare the painting with the reference in photoshop before accusing me? I doubt that. There are ways to tell if it's a photomanipulation or not, you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Here are some close ups, you can see that everything is painted i.imgur.com/faP0zZE.jpg

And I suggest you watch my videos before judging www.youtube.com/playlist?list=…

Your workflow progress is as vague as this one, it's easy to delete layers and paintover the photo itself.
If you've made pencil drawings for "years" as you claim, you'd have a grasp of grayscale >> color theory etc. and would be able to churn out MUCH better than what you've presented here.

This doesn't show ANY process whatsoever and you don't even show flatcolor layers.

Look, I've seen plenty artists do what you do, and it's okay that you use references, but don't go and claim that you did something when it's obvious that you overlay.

Let me show you what an actual WIP video is compared to yours:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6XxHO…

Obviously you're hiding something, because it you ACTUALLY did this, you'd have no need to fade in your progress.

Well, I did ACTUALLY do this and if you don't believe me, then it's your problem. I know the truth, my friends and family know the truth and that's all that matters to me. I sat hours and painted every single pore one by one and after all that, I really don't appreciate being called a liar.

Then why not set up a livestream showing HOW you do it if you actually did?
I'm sure since you're so adamant of "telling" and not showing it'd be really great to see your workflow on a livestream.

That's your opinion, I may not be as "good" as this person makes themselves out to be, but that doesn't downplay the fact that this person is passing off overlays of original photos as "art".
I'm at least improving by not lying to myself and others of my talents.

Maybe that explains his lack of knowledge, he could have at least watched my painting-videos before accusing me of something I didn't do.

I think what he referred to was that you are not very good at drawing but rather at copying, I agree with his point that people who dont know or dont want to learn drawing often resort to being "human xerox" machines. I would recommend you to make an effort to really draw, which is way harder than copying and is way more complex. You are good at copying and if you are satisfied with that, go for it, but I can tell you one thing, if you go outside and try to draw a landscape or person without a photo and without 25 hours time, you will see what it means to abstractize and make marks yourself.

I think he meant that I used a photo and manipulated it so it would look like a painting. I've been drawing my whole life and I also have a few different works in my gallery, I don't always aim for realism nowadays.

Its about you not being able to create anything that looks halfway decent without copying a photo value per value.

it really isnt an opinion, try it out and be honest with yourself, you probably wouldnt be able to do it at all. or do a still life, drawing from photos or rather copying is dangerous because it gives you the chance to completely copy something without any abstratction or thought.

sorry, but this is just a real photo on which you used photoshop to deform it and you filmed the process backwards. I saw this photo on the internet some years ago, and you still can find it if you google his name. take a look...

Strange if you go to celebritysketch.com/jared-leto… the same pose, shirt, hair style and if you download them both, you can actually over lay them on top each other with a little bit of resizing

What? I find it weird that you think that after seeing close ups that don't even look that real.  Do you even know anything about painting? I have better paintings here and also longer videos that show every little detail being painted. If you don't believe me, just open the painting on photoshop and put the reference image on top of it and then adjust opacity. That way you can see with your own eyes, that the two don't even look the same. Here's my proof, let's se yours i.imgur.com/faP0zZE.jpg

same photo you mean?? sorry but i cant believe how is that people believe this is a digital drawing.... it´s just a photo and you used photoshop to erase his features and then you film it backwards. cant believe you people really thought it really was a digital drawing. Melusaaste, you said it yourself, you manipulated a photo and we do have proof.
But why? Why would you do that and post it?

The drawing is an amazing start, very simplified for a digital based. Which is amazing, I'm still learning and playing with digital media, but i prefer working completely in a drawing or painting media and then touching up the lighting of the photo copy. But seeing this I know i still need to work on my skills. Thank you for posting the WIP process and the finished version.

This is awesome. Might I add though your #2 "Looks pretty bad at the beginning" might really shoot down aspiring artists who may be at "that" stage in their abilities.

Thanks! I didn't even think of that :/ Though I'm always more critical of my own work, I never think like that when I'm looking at paintings made by other people.
